i dislike the big numbers as well. it reminds me of NES games... cartoony and useless simply for the effect of making things feel busy.

it needs to be configurable -- a button saying "small damage numbers" would be fine.

everything else in the update was great -- but please, anet, stop monkeying around with the interface.

@Painbringer - that's cute, and somewhat true.

I was out soloing with my warrior and Triple Chop inundates you with numbers floating everywhere. Very distracting. If you are with a party for a mission, I imagine the numbers would obscure some of the foes.

I vote to make size optional on the numbers, but so far I like the damage monitor.

I like it, it's great for pvp imo. If the numbers are too big for you, use a better resolution.

To me it was actually harder to see how much i was healed.
Until now the numbers were smaller but brighter and that's changed with all of them.

I'm not against it but they are a bit big.

Thumbs down Dmg Numbers are too big

I almost never post, but I play often. This change is the only one that convinced me to come here and post. There should be some UI option to turn this off for those that prefered the smaller, less intrusive numbers. Nothing wrong with options, right? They're just too distracting.

Please turn them off.

You can change this in Options and set it so shows as skill name again. General tab I believe, one of the check boxes there.

You can turn off the damage monitor in the Options menu under the Interface tab. Simply uncheck the box next to Damage Monitor.

As to the damage numbers, they do seem a bit large and I could see issues when MMing or doing other spells which damage/heal massively. An option that allows changing the size of these numbers would be the most useful, or just make them all a bit smaller possibly.

I personally dislike the huge numbers as well - I find myself drawn to looking at those versus the creatures you're killing.

Those new numbers. So Fugly. And they are cartoony. Tell the person who designed them to get off crack.

Or Let us have an option to change them!

And WHo the heck wouldn't tell the diff between Red, Green, And Blue, that will notice the diff now?

dude, i'm playing at 1600x1200.
i shudder to think of how huge the numbers are for those poor people who play at 800x600 or 1024x768.

I'm playing at 1680x1050 and they seem perfect to me. I also like the icons instead of the names, because you can tell at a glance what hit you. Though, to the person complaining about the icons, you can change it back to text if you want.

Sorry for the bold but so far only 3 persons said something usefull

YOU CAN TURN OFF THE HUGE NUMBERS AND RETURN THEM TO THE DEFAULT STATE.
THE NUMBERS WILL BE SMALL and THE SKILL WILL BE AGAIN AS TEXT

HIT F11 for Options, or go to Options manually.
On the GENERAL tab, go to the bottom and you will see:
"Show text in skill floaters (Default: Icons)"
PUT a CHECK on it and it will return to the old one. IF IT IS not checked it will show icons and big numbers.

I agree with you... let us choose...
I like the new numbers and informations... i want to kown how much damage i make how much energy i gain... want to kown from where damage comes...
But with the time this new stuff can be boring... this new system are better... but boring...
Let us change when we want... give us the option...

Thanks Arcador, for the info, I was wondering what that option was. It seems that the developers predicted that some would not like the changes and put that option in beforehand.

At any rate, I LOVE the new big animated numbers. It adds some freshness to an otherwise boring same ol' same ol' fight.

I have to admit though, some of the complainers are right. They are pretty distracting at first, and I had a hard time concentrating on what I was supposed to do. But even a p!$$-poor player like me got used to it relatively fast.

EDIT: Just tried that option, and it didn't work like I thought it would. The numbers are still relatively large. The only thing different is that the name of the skill hitting you is displayed rather than the icon on the side of the damage numbers. However, since I LIKE the change, it doesn't bother me like it does others. And I like the name of the skills being displayed better since I never remember what icon goes with what skill anyway.

i like it.

i also like the fact that itll show the last few spells that killed you (dont know too much havent gotten to play enough)

example- in an RA match i got wasted by an assassin, and in the corner of my screen it showed that I was killed with two different dagger skills. that is very cool.

edit- thanks to the above poster and his F11 tip, this whole thread is now pointless (probably a good thing)
